You've gotta go with the Roomba. It's up there with the iPod and the Tivo in terms of usefulness. And it costs about the same as a standard vacuum, so there's no excuse not to get one. The only thing it doesn't do well is stairs, but you can get a cheap Dustbuster for those.

They had a roomba on woot.com pretty recently. The posters on the messageboards seemed to rave about it. Of course, it's not like you can wait for them to have them up for sale again since your vaccuum is totally dead, so this post is completely useless. I am no help!
